Essential Functions
Newpark's Site Access Products & Technology group is seeking a qualified engineer to strengthen our manufacturing excellence which is core to our market leadership in composite matting. This is a visible multidisciplinary hands-on role responsible for maintaining data centric 6-Sigma process excellence, new products scale-up and strategic manufacturing reconfiguration and expansion. You will work with the manufacturing plant staff daily and share the organizational production and quality goals. We are looking for a person who prioritizes safety and has strength and experience in Engineering, Automation and Process Optimization, and interest in scouting for new manufacturing machinery and other process advancements. The role requires teamwork, presentations and regular internal communication with the division management, plant management and vendors. Industrial experience is required, preferably in continuous process or manufacturing. Knowledge of process costing would be a plus.
Job Responsibilities & Expectations -

  • Be an integral part of new product-process development / Engineering team that carries the business mission of world class process efficiency and constantly enhancing the technology brand.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain process uptime. Current manufacturing process consists of plastic extrusion and molding.
  • Ability to create a process flow diagram and analyze input/output at each logical steps to deduce relationships or transfer functions. Apply this in a plant production process to create various material/information flow models. Use this to highlight plant process reliability, bottlenecks and quality metrics. Apply these further to build business outcome scenarios.
  • Ability to understand machine configurations and specifications. Ability to conduct a gap analysis if a specific machine or a process step is operating at, above or below the design guidelines.
  • Ability to design and conduct small scale tests to validate hypothesis. Proficiency in using basic mechanical tools and power tools.
  • Responsibility for monitoring product scaleups and resolving any engineering bottlenecks.
  • Responsibility for drafting new operating instructions and control limits for use in manufacturing processes.
  • Responsible for staying current with technical advances in pertinent manufacturing processes.
  • Be able to communicate with new engineering vendors and machine manufactures and travel to assess or conduct new machinery trials.
  • Basic familiarity with selection, use and working of various sensors - load, temperature and other sensory signals.
  • Basic understanding of IoT and digital twin concepts.
  • Basic familiarity of statistical data analysis, and 6-Sigma tools including FMEAs.
  • Familiarity with basic plastics and metallic materials of construction and their properties.
  • Proficient in searching and understanding technical publications.
  • Maintain active participation in professional groups pertinent to your field.
  • Responsible for frequent reporting and internal presentations.
  • Committed to maintaining safe workplace.
    Education & Experience Requirements
    Bachelors Degree in Engineering or educational equivalent. 3 years experience. Broad analytical skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Good problem-solving skills. Basic project management skills. Sound working knowledge of principles, concepts, theories, and/or practices of applicable discipline.
    Position Summary
    Plans and conducts research and development of standard engineering assignments. Assignments can be a significant portion of a larger project. Develops and implements new production methods. Recommends and implements improvements in the production process. Selects engineering techniques to solve problems and makes sound recommendations. Assesses results for applicability, validity and conformance to specifications. May be the lead engineer on smaller project with some functional supervision. Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters. May assist technical support teams in testing new applications and problem solving. May be assisted by entry level personnel. Assists in project planning and review. Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity. Assignments are reviewed for overall soundness and adherence to stated objectives. Handles special projects, as assigned.
