THE UL LAFAYETTE NEW IBERIA RESEARCH CENTER ("NIRC") is a Center of theUniversity. NIRC provides resources andsupport for conduct of basic, applied, and translational research aimed atfinding solutions for human health and societal problems. Provision and characterization of relevantanimal models, in-vivo and in-vitro investigative, diagnostic, histological,and platform specific sample processing and analysis, facilities critical decisionmaking regarding potential pre-clinical candidate therapeutics risk versus benefitto enter clinical trials. An AAALACinternational accredited facility, NIRC houses approximately 8500 nonhumanprimates (including Great Apes, Old World and New World species). NIRCcurrently seeks to fill the position of Study Director, Research Resources. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall responsibility for conduct, raw data generation, interpretation and reporting of preclinical laboratory studies in compliance with the approved protocol, Standard Operating Procedures, and applicable regulations.The candidate will conduct specialized training sessions and pre-study meetings as applicable prior to initiation. Oversight of the Contract Research Program. -- Insures agreements (Master service, nondisclosure and/or confidentiality), contracts, and regulatory approval documents (IACUC, IBC, and/or RSC) are in place prior to study initiation. -- Assure all studies performed at NIRC are conducted in accordance with the highest quality research standards including FDA and/or OECD GLP regulations if applicable. -- Assure all studies performed at NIRC are performed in compliance with the USDA Animal Welfare Act. -- Assure all studies are properly planned, staffed, performed and documented. Assure personnel are adequately trained to perform job duties. -- Assure personnel, resources, facilities, equipment, materials, and methodologies necessary for study conduct are available as scheduled. -- Conduct and/or insure conduct of specialized in-services for infectious agents, procedures, and/or methods. -- Oversight of Research Resources in life study conduct in accordance with the USDA Animal Welfare Act, the IACUC approval, approved study protocols and Standard Operating Procedures with any variances appropriately documented. -- Contract Research Proposal negotiations included costing, issuance of price quotes, statement or scope of work for contract research projects.Initiates proposal process. -- Facilitate development, execution and communication of specific research goals to include establishment of a comprehensive research portfolio including external collaborative partnerships with pharmaceutical, biotech, and investigatory initiated basic and translational research to strengthen the NIRC's global positioning. Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will hold a B.S, M.S., D.V.M., or PhD. in a scientificdiscipline appropriate for the nature of the work conducted at UL LafayetteNIRC. Strong computer skills are a must,as are skills in managing, planning, and organizing multiple activities. Prior experience in contract research utilizinganimal models is preferred (a minimum of two years) although five years ofproject management in a regulated environment (FDA GMP or health care) may besubstituted. Candidate must be amotivated self starter capable of meeting established deadlines. The selected candidate must also demonstratethe ability to communicate effectively with NIRC staff members, external collaborators,sponsor monitors and visitors of UL Lafayette NIRC.
