Job Description:

Harrison Steel is currently seeking an experienced Human Resources professional to fill its Director of Human Resources position. This position will develop, direct, and coordinate Human Resource activities and policies including talent acquisition, engagement and retention, development, compensation, employee relations, benefits, and employee services.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, with a Bachelor's degree preferred. Five years of progressively responsible-related experiences are required. Strong language, communication, writing, Microsoft Office, HRIS, and Workforce Management system skills required. Strong knowledge of human resources and benefits including experience in a HRIS highly preferred. Prior employee recruitment experience required, preferably in a heavy-manufacturing setting. PHR/SHRM-CP or SPHR/SHRM-SCP Certification preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates and analyzes existing HR policies, procedures, and processes. Identifies trends, forecasts, analyzes, plans, develops, implements, and delivers presentations regarding benefits, compensation, regulatory topics, as well as other HR-related functions. Ensures consistency in application of policies and procedures across the organization.
  • Identifies and oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication for federal and state legal requirements, laws, and reporting regulations affecting Human Resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are compliant; consulting with legal counsel as needed.
  • Responsible for all talent acquisition activities including recruitment and retention efforts as well as discipline and termination policies, programs, forecasts, and analysis, including associated documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Facilitates, counsels, conducts, and arbitrates disputes and investigations to achieve the appropriate resolution in addressing personnel issues and complaints as well as represents the organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to management for Human Resource expertise and issues as well as a reliable resource and advocate for employees. Effectively communicates policies, processes and procedures through various mediums.
  • Oversees the employee lifecycle (training and development, competency, performance reviews, workforce planning, and other employment areas), and provides necessary communication, training, and prepares various forecasting models and gathers various wage data to help determine competitive rates.
  • Oversees compliance and administration of benefits (including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), and short-term and long-term disability), FMLA leave, and Workers Compensation program, in coordination with pertinent employees and individuals involved.
  • Remains current on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and timely presents findings to management.
  • Manages the HRIS system and the Workforce Management System including data integrity, in collaboration with Payroll and IT Departments.
  • Consistently maintain favorable and effective relations among employees.

      Work Environment: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The noise level is usually moderate in offices and loud in our non-climate-controlled production facility.
