Manager, who is responsible for the overall planning, organizing,
coordination and directing of all functions on the Maternal Child
Nursing Unit.EDUCATIONGraduate of an Accredited School of
NursingBSN preferred.MSN or Master's in related field
preferredLICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONCurrent RN license in State of
LouisianaA Perinatal Certification by any nationally recognized
certification organization is recommendedEXPERIENCEMinimum 1-3
years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience in
health care or related field preferred;Minimum 3 years of Labor and
delivery experience and 3 years of OB/GYN/Peds nursing experience
in a hospital setting;Good verbal and written skills;Demonstrates
customer relation skillsSPECIAL QUALIFICATIONSCPR upon hireNRP
within 3 months of hireACLS within 6 months of hire preferredPALS
preferredFetal Heart Monitoring Education - Completion of AWHONN
designated intermediate or advanced fetal heart monitoring
educationPRINCIPLE TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIESAssures
quality patient care and ensures that sufficient and properly
trained persons carry out the functions of the department.Is
fiscally responsible for the cost effectiveness of care provided
and for administration of the departmental budget.Is responsible
for providing leadership and promoting effective relationships
between departmental staff, physicians and other
departments.Ensures the provision of safe, financially sound and
efficient patient care.Coordinates all staff, scheduling and
monitoring of personnel to ensure appropriate staffing on a daily
basis.Consistently demonstrates job performance, which reflects
commitment to the core values and standards of care of IMC;
actively promotes the hospital and supports the mission and vision
at IMC.Plans and assists in patient teaching as necessary.Acts a
liaison between patient, family, staff and physician.Ensures the
continuity of care and discharge planning.Ensures that physician's
orders are transcribed appropriately and carried out.Sets specific
standards and objectives for Maternal Child Services in
collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer and
physicians.Communicates changes in policy, procedures and other
appropriate communication to staff and provides feedback from
staff. Participates in policy/procedure review, update, and
implementation.Conducts staff meetings on a regularly scheduled
basis.Directs and participates in orientation and clinical learning
experiences for staff. Schedules staff/self to attend education
programs and annual updates.Seeks assistance from appropriate
resource person as necessary in solving clinical and management
problems.Maintains required records and reports and submits in a
timely fashion (budgetary, training, performance improvement,
productivity, etc.).Coaches and counsels employees, as needed, to
ensure optimal patient care and maximum efficiency in department
fashion. Evaluates staff performance, recommends wage increases,
promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and separation of
service.Promotes an environment in which the Patient Care Team can
work cooperatively toward objectives. Maintains communication and
promotes cooperation with other departments.Delegates
responsibilities within scope of personnel abilities.Actively
participates in hospital-wide performance improvement activities;
ensures participation by employees. Demonstrates development of
effective performance improvement programs and quality control
