This job designs and fits supportive products to provide care to patients who have disabling conditions of the limbs and spine or need assistance with activities of daily living to maintain function to remain active. Assesses patients, formulates a treatment plan, implements the treatment plan, follows up and manages the practice. Works closely with the medical staff in the treatment and/or rehabilitation of the injured, athlete or physically challenged. Assumes responsibility for fitting patients with orthotic braces, dispensing TENS units to patients, casting application and removal, splinting, and instructing them on use and care. Education Required - Bachelor's Degree in science, business, or healthcare Work Experience Required - 2 years of healthcare related experience may be substituted in lieu of educational requirements Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Thorough understanding of medical terminology.
• Active listening, reading and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charts and correspondence.

  • Applies orthotic bracing.
  • Dispenses and provides instruction for TENS units.
  • Manages patients.
  • Applies casting application, removal, and splinting responsibilities.
  • Maintains orthopedic closets and inventory of closets in designated areas.
  • Assists with delivery of patient care by functioning as an effective member of the team.
  • Ensures the flow and retrieval of information is timely and accurate.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
