This job independently performs advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. This job leads departmental programs and is a clinical mentor for junior staff and students, and assumes routine supervisory duties in the absence of the team leader.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education Required - Completion of a CAHEA approved formal training program in Diagnostic Medical SonographyWork ExperienceRequired - 5 years Sonographer experienceCertificationsRequired - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)Advanced certification in area(s) of specialty according to facility needBasic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart AssociationKnowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.Job Duties
    • Verifies physician order and procedure to assure accuracy.
    • Utilizes radiology information systems to facilitate care.
    • Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
    • Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (including assisting radiologists in guided procedures in a variety of settings).
    • Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
    • Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performing notification/remediation as warranted.
    • Leads departmental programs, protocol development, system standardization, competency validation, safety programs, accreditation, and quality/efficiency initiatives.
    • Assists in the orientation and training of junior staff; provides feedback to annual staff evaluations.
    • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
