CPI required for all nurses Must-Have: - Must be comfortable
working in a hurricane-impacted area - Must not apply during the
hurricane window if uncomfortable with storm assignments
Description: You are applying for a position in a commonly impacted
area for hurricanes. The hurricane season runs from June 1 to
November 30, but storms may occur outside of this window. Upon
accepting an assignment and starting your role, your unit manager
may assign you to an emergency team. There will be an expectation
to stay at the facility until after the storm passes or to be part
of the relief team. Specific details related to pay will be
communicated during each storm as impacts may vary. You should
report as assigned by your immediate unit manager if a storm
occurs. Patient diagnoses include chest pain, coronary artery
disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmias, diabetes
mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbation,
pneumonia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, renal failure,
pulmonary embolism, congestive heart failure, gastrointestinal
bleed, and syncope. Always expect potential for medical-surgical
overflow, such as gastrointestinal bleed, sepsis, cerebrovascular
accident, or COVID-19 positive cases. Special procedures and unit
details involve pre/post catheterization lab care,
pacemaker/implantable cardioverter defibrillator care, ablation
post-operative care, post-operative coronary artery bypass graft
care, post-operative thoracotomy care, and vascular surgeries. You
will be involved in the titration of drips, such as Cardizem,
Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, and heparin.
Sheath pulling will be done at the bedside. You will be required to
work every other holiday and can be pulled to all other inpatient
units. Specific scheduling requests cannot be guaranteed. Telemetry
monitoring equipment usage will be necessary, along with chest
tubes, patient-controlled analgesia, epidurals, and wound vacs.
