Normally drill holes in roof and walls, using a set pattern and
installs roof bolts. - May use hands or roof drill to put bolt in
place and tighten to a given torque, using drill machine.
Keeps a record of bolts installed and makes a daily written report.
- Has a good knowledge of roof and wall controls and makes
inspection of areas of the mine, recommending corrective
Makes minor repairs on equipment and may help mechanics with other
repairs. - Greases and oils machinery. - Keeps area clean and does
other work as directed.

Essential Job Function
Pre-shifts machines, checks proper fluid levels. - May assist in
equipment repair. - Requires employee to bend, twist, and stoop and
climb short access ladder to equipment.
Operates the roof bolting machine to install roof bolts in the roof
or rib. - He assembles the components (expansion shell, bolt body,
water and plate) and places into the turret (#3) or lifts onto the
machine (#2). - He changes the bits on the drill steel. - After he
drills the hole the bolt is inserted into the hole (by hand on #2)
then tightened. - The torque is checked by hand with a torque
wrench. - Requires to twist and lift. - Lifting would be limited to
a maximum of 65 pounds.
Requires some lifting, the bolt assemblies to the turret on #3 and
the bolt assemblies to the deck then individually into the hole on
#2. - The drill steel and wrench on #2 must also be lifted. - This
also requires some twisting. - Lifting would be limited to a
maximum of 65 pounds.
Must have good eye/hand coordination to peroperly manipulate the
respective control levers to line up holes and insert the bolt
Must be able to work both alone and in a group environment.
The employee may be required to perofrm light scaling to assure the
roof plate is tight. - Lifting would be limited to a maximum of 65
Must be able to work additional hours and shifts as required.
Completes a daily written report indicating the number of bolts
used and the torque of bolts.
Work environment is the underground mine exposed to dust, dirt,
fumes from blasting and equipment, temperatures, and equipment
vibration due to uneven and sloping floors.
Under the general supervision of the General Mine Supervisor and
the direct supervision of the Mine Production Foreman, drills holes
in roof or wall and installs roofbolts.
Normally requires over 1 to 3 months experience and training to
