Job Description:
Arcosa Lightweight is searching for an Environmental Engineer
Intern for our Baton Rouge, LA location. As an Environmental
Intern, you will foster a positive safety culture while supporting
the environmental team with compliance, regulations and projects
within a 24/7 aggregate environment that is regulated by MSHA
safety standards. Arcosa Lightweight is a leading producer and
distributor in the Western and Southwestern U.S. of lightweight and
natural aggregates, including expanded shale and clay, crushed
stone, sand and gravel, asphalt rock, and other products. What
You'll Do: • Comply with all industry safety rules, procedures and
applicable government regulations including but not limited to
ensuring a safe working environment for self and others •
Participate in plant safety initiatives, committees and activities
• Conduct mandatory MSHA pre-shift inspections on equipment and
work areas in the plant • Assist in development and implementation
of environmental training program • Maintain detailed records and
prepare related reports and studies for submission to regulatory
agencies • Perform technical analysis of process data as related to
air and water emissions • Responsible for project work related to
analysis and improvement of Company LWA sites as related to
environmental compliance or plant processes to reduce waste and
pollutants • Develop familiarity with the federal, state and local
regulations as well as Arcosa’s practices, procedures and standards
• Work with plant operations to conduct environmental field
sampling; interpret data • Assist with data entry and environmental
metrics • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual
compliance inspections and audits • Assist QA/QC environmental
reports • Assist with electronic solutions and data input to track
environmental performance • Assist with preparation and
presentation of environmental training • Assist with streamlining
federal and state regulatory reporting: GHG, TRI, Tier II,
Emissions Inventory, Compliance Certification • Assist with
creation and documentation of previous environmental documentation,
maps, and drawings • Assist with the development of a robust
environmental management system (EMS) focused project work
including creation of standard operating procedures, environmental
compliance calendar, documentation, data compilation and analysis •
Assist in the development of air emissions tracking and compliance
programs • Update environmental compliance and procedure documents
EMS website maintenance and SharePoint development • Manipulation
and analysis of large environmental data sets using proprietary
software and Microsoft products • Overall department support and
duties as assigned • Responsible for abiding by and support all
company and plant safety policies, rules, and procedures as well as
M.S.H.A. regulations • Perform other duties as assigned What You'll
Need: • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering or
related field • Prompt, regular and predictable attendance •
Ability to work independently in a manufacturing environment while
adhering to good safety practices • Ability to decipher and analyze
data for operational improvements • Ability to map out processes
and identify bottlenecks • Skills in organizing tasks, timelines,
and resources MS Office Suite: Proficiency in MS Excel for data
analysis, MS PowerPoint for presentations, and MS Word for
documentation • Capability to identify issues and find effective
solutions • Ability to collaborate with different departments and
teams • Flexibility to adjust in a dynamic work environment •
Taking the initiative to learn, ask questions, and seek feedback •
Efficiently managing tasks and responsibilities within provided
timelines • Basic knowledge of tools like Power BI to present data
findings • Willing to travel on the job • Must be open to and
comfortable with change. • The ability to stand, stoop, bend, lift
up to 100 lbs, walk, climb stairs, ladders and catwalks up to 60
feet as required • The ability to work in varied outdoor
environments (cold, hot, dry, dusty, rainy, snowy, icy)
